La Società Chimica Italiana

The progress of chemistry in our history

The Italian Chemical Society, founded in 1909 and erected as a Moral Entity with Royal Decree no. 480/1926, is a scientific association that numbers over four thousand five hundred members. The Members carry out their activities in universities and research institutions, in schools, in industries, in public and private research and control laboratories, in the freelance profession. They are united, in addition to the interest in chemical science, by the desire to contribute to the cultural and economic growth of the national community, to the improvement of the quality of human life and to the protection of the environment.

The governing bodies of the Society are the President, the Executive Committee and the Central Council. Sections and Divisions are also governed by a President and a Board of Directors

The Society organizes numerous conferences, courses, schools and seminars both nationally and internationally. To disseminate the principles of chemical science in secondary schools, it annually organizes the Chemistry Games, a competition that allows young people to test their knowledge in this field and which selects the national team for the International Chemistry Olympiad.

The publishing activity is significant with the publication, jointly with other European Chemical Societies, of high-level international scientific journals. It also publishes the journal La Chimica nella Scuola.

The official organ of the Society is the journal La Chimica e l’Industria.
