The Italian Chemical Society has always been committed to promoting scientific culture, with particular attention to the new generations. We believe it is essential to bring young people closer to the world of Chemistry, stimulating curiosity and interest in this fascinating discipline full of opportunities. For over 40 years, the SCI has developed various initiatives dedicated to schools. Through the Chemistry Games and its spin-offs, the Avogadro Games and the Cannizzaro Games, the SCI contributes to the education of a new generation of citizens aware of the central role that Chemistry plays in our society.
The Chemistry Games are a national competition aimed at secondary school students, divided into several phases: regional, national and international. Promoted by SCI since 1984, they represent a stimulating and engaging educational tool, which allows students to measure themselves with theoretical and practical problems of chemistry, enhancing their scientific skills.
The Avogadro Games, introduced by SCI in 2024, are designed for students between 11 and 13 years old. Through fun and stimulating questions, participants are guided to discover the fundamental concepts of chemistry and the scientific method, with a language and structure suitable for their age group. Participation is free and represents for many students a first concrete step towards the study of chemistry.
The Cannizzaro Games are the most recent initiative of the SCI dedicated to science education in primary school. Aimed at students in the fourth and fifth grades, they offer recreational activities, virtual laboratories, multiple choice questions and interactive games to creatively introduce the basic concepts of chemistry.
